Rabbit Class YR&1

Rabbit News (4th October, 2024)

In Rabbit Class we have been super busy learning about the routines, following the timetable, getting to know each other... Everyone is proud of our new rabbits, they managed to learn so much in such little time, I find this worth commending; it is a huge step going into full time education. We have completed our baseline assessments which means I will have more time playing snap or being in the moment with the children, very exciting. We focused on Me and my family, my pet(s) and lots of autumn activities. During maths we are subitising numbers, counting objects inside and outside, making patterns using nature- especially during woodland walk sessions. We have focused on lovely texts which will lead our learning. The Leaf Man supporting their understanding of patterns in nature. Pumpkin Soup helping us write recipes for our floor book so that we can learn how to make pumpkin soup, we even have children who are keen scientists who would like to grow their own pumpkins with the seeds we found in our pumpkin!

We are also very impressed with our new cohort's interest in phonics and the speed we are moving on with blending new words! Way to go!

Autumn 1: Learning Overview

Welcome Back!

We would like to take this opportunity to welcome everyone back after the summer break and share with you some information about this Autumn Term including our learning overview which follows the letter.

Staffing

As you are aware, Rabbits Class is taught by Mrs Jolliffe and supported by Miss Maisey and Mrs Clayden.  We also have Mrs Robertson who is our 1:1 support. Miss Capon will be with Rabbit class on alternative Mondays providing statutory PPA cover for Mrs Jolliffe.

EYFS Baseline

From September 2021, all Reception aged children are required to take part in “Reception Baseline assessments (RBA). The children will take part in a short series of activities using a range of familiar objects and pictures, and will do so with Mrs Jolliffe. All schools are required to complete the baselines assessments within the first 5 weeks of children starting school, so we will be beginning our baseline assessment from Monday 16th September. If you have any questions, please come and speak to us.

Homework

We want homework to be engaging and purposeful so that it consolidates the learning from the classroom. We also want it to be manageable as we appreciate how busy home life can be.

Homework will be sent home on Fridays and collected in the following Wednesdays. For Rabbit class, the homework consists of:

  • Daily reading for 10 minutes
  • Maths
  • Phonics

We will send phonics and maths on alternate weeks (starting later in the term once the children are settled and ready).

PE Kit

There will be two sessions of PE per week; one indoor and one outdoor session. These are planned for each Monday and Friday. Please send your child in wearing their PE kits on Mondays and Fridays.

Volunteers

We have been fortunate that several parents have approached the school offering their services as a volunteer. Currently, we are reviewing how we can utilise volunteers to best support the school. If volunteering is something that you are interested in, please let the school office know.
