Hi Mrs L and Mrs B Its adapting by stretching its legs left and right then putting its neck down so it can reach the water. I also saw that it beaned it back in a weird way so its neck is lower down to the water. Also thanks for to compliment on the 100km completed bike challenge

Hi James, it is adapting by splaying its front legs so that it can reach water. When we investigated a bit further this morning, we discovered that scientists think that giraffes grew longer necks so that there was less competition for food - giraffes eat plant matter that grows up high and they don't have to compete with all the other animals that eat plant life that is close to the ground. We also found out that their front legs are longer than their back legs because they are needed to help support their very long necks! You are very welcome - you deserved the compliment having achieved such an amazing goal. 100km in one month - way to go James!

Hi Mrs l and Mrs B, I think that maybe monkeys could get smaller so they can swing through the trees more easily. Giraffes could have shorter legs, but that might them a better target for predators. From Esme

Hi Esme, lovely to hear from you today. We're wondering - if the monkeys become smaller might it be more difficult to swing through large trees? So, smaller monkeys would be better suited to smaller trees perhaps. Is that your thinking? Re giraffe legs - yes,shorter legs would mean that they can't cover as much ground when they try to run away from predators. Today we also found out that their long legs might help them to blend in with the trees that they feed from - so a double bonus! Take care,
